Holiday Party Do’s and Don’ts
Are you in the midst of planning your holiday party? Holiday festivities can be an opportunity for fun and celebrations, but also area for some social missteps. Follow this quick list of do’s and don’ts to keep your soiree in check.
DO keep the tone of the event professional. By maintaining a setting of “office casual” you will avoid too much “cutting loose” behavior and make sure everyone acts in a respectful nature.
DON’T over-serve alcohol. You are legally responsible for your employees getting home safely and not putting them in a harmful situation. By offering a very limited amount of alcohol you are taking care of the security of both your company and your employees.
DO create a “general holiday” theme for your party. Respect cultural differences and values by letting the employees enjoy their own interpretation of the holiday season, rather than insisting everyone celebrate the holiday you recognize.
DON’T spend the entire night talking business. Allow a forum for employees to share stories about their families or personal interests, rather than expecting them to stick with company-only topics.
DO have fun. As the company owners, you are also the party host. If you regard the party as an opportunity to laugh and talk with co-workers and employees, and your party guests will likely enjoy it too.
